Safer Streets Coming to Edgewater Beach
Great news for pedestrian safety! The City of Chicago has approved EBNA's request for traffic calming measures throughout the neighborhood.
What's Being Installed
Speed Reduction
- Speed bumps on residential streets
- Enhanced "20 MPH" speed limit signs
- Radar speed monitors at key locations
Pedestrian Safety
- High-visibility crosswalks at:
- Berwyn & Winthrop
- Thorndale & Kenmore
- Glenlake & Broadway
- New pedestrian crossing signals
- Improved street lighting at crossings
Implementation Schedule
Phase 1 (March 2025)
- Speed bumps installation
- New signage
Phase 2 (April-May 2025)
- Crosswalk improvements
- Lighting upgrades
Community Input
These improvements are the result of:
- Two years of data collection
- Community surveys (500+ responses)
- Traffic study recommendations
- Collaboration with Alderman Johnson's office

- Observe posted speed limits - especially in school zones
- Yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks
